The 103rd Anniversary of National Chung Hsing University, the Art Center specially invited the representative photographer in Taiwan, Zhuang Ling alumnus, to stage a special photography exhibition of " Images of Alma Mater · Seeking Art for Lifetime " from October 27th to November 26th, 2022. The works on display focus on the campus life of Mr. Zhuang between 1957 to 1961, when he was studying at the Provincial Agricultural College (the predecessor of National Chung Hsing University), including the scenery of the school, the tree farm working program, club activities, the summer military training, old time of Taichung city, and festivals, etc., which truly record the photographer's life and creative, and allow us to glimpse the early prosperity of National Chung Hsing University and social changing. After the exhibition, those precious school history documents will be donated to National Chung Hsing University for well preserved.
Zhuang Ling, born in Guizhou, China in 1938, graduated from the Forestry Department of National Chung Hsing University in 1961. When he was young, he accompanied his father to transport the first batch of culture relics from the palace museum to Taiwan. He witnessed the old days of the that the culture relics still been preserve in Beigou, Wufeng District, and was deeply influenced by the classical culture. Wandering in the experimentation and agitation of novel artistic concepts, his works show elegant and unrestrained techniques. His 24 years career as a photojournalist at TTV provide him an opportunity to visit a lot of countries and experience the changes in the world situation and the photographic area in the second half of the 20th century. He truly learned about news and documentary photography, which deeply influenced his following image creation and photographic art. He is also good at preserving fleeting landscapes and characters in the pictures, many contemporary celebrity artists can also be seen in the exhibition.
Zhuang Ling can shoot, write, and direct, he founded Theatre Quarterly and Visual-10 (V10) group with his friends in 1960s. He has been invited to exhibit and give lectures domestic and foreign and has been widely praised by international media. At the same time, he has published high-quality books which led the trend of photography art and cultivated countless film talents. Over the years, he has won the Golden Horse Awards, the Zhongshan Literature and Art Award, the Chinese Literature and Art Medal, the ZTE Literature and Art Medal, and the 26th Wu Sanlian Award. In 2008, together with Dong Min alumnus, he held the "The Vision of Great Disparity: Dong Min•Zhuang Ling Photography Art Exhibition" at the Art Center of Chung Hsing university, and donated the representative work series of Life on the Road to NCHU, which is passed down as a story of the art world.
Photography is an important medium for transmitting culture. Initial from recording people and things around to the later journalism work in the era of personal life and the environment, Zhuang Ling developed a series of creative themes. He explored nearly seventy years through camera, and what he saw was not only the changes of the times and the process of multicultural integration. He brings out the philosophy of photography and spreads the aesthetics of photography. Welcome everyone to come and appreciate it.
